You know whats funny? I was cleaning out my drafts folder and found this rough draft of a post I was going to do back in 2012, but never finished! I still think it is very much postworthy and relevant, so I will share it with you over 2 years later!

I have this immense fascination with Morocco, so of course when I saw this delightful residence in the May issue of Lonny, I was ecstatic. Welcome to the Moroccan abode of author and activist, Maryam Montague. (You may be familiar with her book Marrakesh by Design.) Keep scrolling for some major eye candy!

This home is the ultimate balance of old and new. It is Moroccan-modern perfection. You know what helps? Having an architect husband. Together Maryam and her husband Chris were able to create their dream family home in the perfect central location for work and play.

I’m loving the mix of modern and vintage Moroccan design elements. Such a vivid collection from a well traveled family and a sweet reflection of the city she has grown to love.

Totally crushing all of the vintage light fixtures!!

And this headboard is genius!

Can you even imagine how fabulous the parties would be on this patio??

Hey, it may be from 2012 but you could have told me it was in print yesterday and I would have believed it. The moral of this story: Great design is timeless, remember that friends. And also do not wait until tomorrow (or 2 years from tomorrow) to do what could be done today!

design obsession: feathers

I didn’t realize just how much I love feathers… until the other day. I was on a run on Saturday morning and I saw one resting on the concrete. Simple and gray, it may have been run over countless times, but it was still as perfect as ever.

I love the spiritual, natural, carefree vibe they give off.

Drooling over this shop in Amsterdam called Harvest & Company!

And who can talk about feathers and not mention Another Feather‘s amazing studio space?!

color story: citrus tones

We all draw our inspiration from different places. Finding inspiration in food… that’s perfectly normal, right? Yup. Some of the most cheery colors out there are citrus tones. Lime, grapefruit, orange, lemon… They are like little works of art. Especially when styled like this pic below:

And besides, what’s summer without good music, longer days, – and of course – bright colors?

Honestly, this may be my favorite color palette in the world. (I may have said that before in a blog post, but I was just kidding, and am super serious now.)

I mean, some of my favorite interior shots EVER are in this palette:

You may remember the image from above. This home was featured in Coastal Living.

And this one: well if a green banquette doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will.

Tastefully done with some more traditional flair.

This nugget below made the cover of Southern Living’s May 2012 issue. For me, it still remains one of the best mixes of prints I’ve seen in an interior.

And let me just say – Mandi at Vintage Revivals is the bomb-dot-com, because she gets the last 2 photo mentions.

This first one is the love child of retro vintage and bohemian styles and it’s awesome.

And YES, one of my favorite DIY projects of all time!!! Seriously, still can’t get over that hex wall. She’s a genius!

MYTH #1: You have to live in FL to rock these colors.

MYTH #2: Using a bunch of bright colors together creates disaster.

As proven by the pictures above, both of these statements are totally false! Yes, these colors do favor coastal environments, but when done right, anyone can pull off this look. Intermix some of these fresh tones in, and the fruits of your labor will pay off (See what I did there?)

insta-follow: i have this thing with floors

Any Instagram-ers out there?! It’s always exciting to come across a new account that is outside the box or has an actual theme or purpose. (Lets face it, I can’t be the only one that gets bored with the same ol’ picture perfect shot of someone holding an ice cream cone or bouquet of flowers, even as pretty as they are.)

Well, if you are obsessed with floors, tile, and pattern in general, this account is for you. I Have This Thing With Floors is a plethora of beautiful floor shots from all over the world, taken by various Instagram users.

I love how all of the photos are taken from the same point of view. I also love to see what shoe personality each person has.

design obsession: scalloped

You know what shape I’m loving right now? (I’ll give you one guess, and it may or may not be in the title of this post.)

The lovely scallop shape is derived from my favorite childhood shell with the same name. Its curved edges takes me back to when I was a 7-year-old seeing the ocean for the first time, and the hunt for the perfect one. The form is soothing and organic, but creates incredible interest when turned into a pattern. It can be retro. It can be modern. Originating from nature, the scallop shape is timeless.
