on point: Highpoint Market favorites

If you are a residential designer, Highpoint Market is like Mecca – you absolutely have to make the trip!  If you can’t attend the next best thing is to follow along virtually.  The hashtag #HPMKT on Instagram has nearly 60K posts of new products and inspiration.  Based on personal preference and post popularity, here are my picks on this Spring’s market winners.

HOT NEW WALLPAPER

Detroit Wallpaper stole the show with their brightly colored geometric patterns.  I obviously have immense love for the Mitten State and am happy to see the success of yet another amazing Detroit business!

gift guide: for the entertainer

Hope everyone had a very relaxing Thanksgiving filled with extraordinary amounts of food, family, and fun!  I cannot get over the fact that yesterday was the first day of December.  Did it creep up on anyone else??

I will be starting a series of gift idea posts geared towards different personas.  I’m always on the hunt for gifts that are specific to the person, yet unique and useful too!

The first gift guide is geared toward the Entertainer.  We all know that someone who loves to have dinner parties at their house, cook up a bunch of food, or has that killer wine collection.  It may seem like this person has all their bases covered but here are some interesting items they may not have:

gift guide - for the entertainer

  1. tabletop collection is simple yet elegant
  2. gold bar cart at a great price
  3. stylish wood cutting boards that are great for serving breads or cheeses
  4. metallic coasters add an unexpected element of style
  5. set of whale measuring spoons are cute for the sea lover
  6. Scandinavian style salt & pepper grinders

For links to the following items, go to our gifts board on Vim & Vintage’s Pinterest page.

6 end tables i’m loving right now

Here are a few of my favorite {living room} things…

6 end tables I'm loving right now

1> Vein cut marble top paired with the wood base is sophisticated yet earthy.

2> I already love a good log table, but the lacquered silver takes the cake. Use one as a drink table, or bunch a few in place of a coffee table.

3>  A modern take on Saarinen’s tulip side table. I adore the metal and wood combo!

4> Love the simple shape.  This one can be traditional or modern, and comes in the gray wash  (as shown) or 2 other finishes.

5> These little hourglass tables from Target are a steal at $59.99!

6> Gold leaf hairpin legs + white marble top = A little slice of heaven

Which one is your fave??

color story: peach + emerald

Bold emerald green matched with soft peach is both flirty and fierce!   I’m loving these 2 colors together.

(It’s past my bedtime, and I’m sleepy.  So instead of attempting to come up with witty captions, I’ll show you pretty pictures and your imagination can take it from there 🙂 )

Pigeon & Poodle: all in the details

Design really is in the details.

The larger pieces always seem to be the main focus of the designer, but we have to be careful not to lose sight of the smaller details and accessories we put into each project.  It’s these pretty little things that give the design character and make it unique.  Even the most minimal or simple designs will need to be carefully refined.

A few months back I found this wonderful accessories company called Pigeon and Poodle.  (Great name, right??)  They specialize in bath accessories, but also carry other home items like frames and baskets.  Their product line is inspired from nature and world travel, so each piece has its own story.  Beautiful handcrafted trays made from capiz shells (as shown below), marble soap dishes, and onyx tissue boxes are just a few of the offerings in their bath collection.

Here’s some of my favorites:

Handa Open Tray - Pigeon & Poodle

Manchester Turquoise Brush Holder - Pigeon & Poodle

ciaro tissue box

Malabar Wastebasket - Pigeon & Poodle

Avignon Mother of Pearl Frames - Pigeon & Poodle

Bali Tray Set from Pigeon & Poodle

Pigeon and Poodle kicked off 2013 debuting at the Atlanta Gift Show, New York Gift Show and Las Vegas Market, and have been featured in House Beautiful.   I think big things are in store for these guys!  Their products are sold to the trade only, but visit their website to see full collections @ http://www.pigeonandpoodle.com .
