celebrity homes: will ferrell + john legend

Ahh so glad it’s Friday. I’m beyond ready for the weekend.  I was on AD’s website earlier and saw these two beautiful homes.  The first crib is home to the very talented musical star John Legend.  The 2nd belongs to one of my favorite actors & comedians, Will Ferrell.

John Legend’s Los Angeles Home

Tucked in the Hollywood Hills, this 60’s home’s style is “chic and tailored but also earthy and casual” according to the singer/songwriter, who shares the home with his fiance.

John Legend's living room

The contrast of light and dark, mixed use of materials, and organic shapes are what makes the space so special.

I adore those two chairs! How fun!

Streamlined and very modern kitchen.

Notice the wall covering? It’s seagrass.

Will Ferrell’s New York Loft

Located downtown NYC, this space was transformed from a dark and crumbling Victorian-era printing factory to a bright and airy residence to Will, his wife, and 3 kids.  It’s an unexpectedly upscale and sophisticated home for such a funny guy.

I must say, I love the bedrooms!

So which celeb has the better designed home, Will or John??  What would you rather have: a city loft or the mansion in the hills?

color story: burgundy tones

burgundy outfit

Maroon.  Wine.  Oxblood.  Raspberry.  Is it just me or are these colors everywhere right now?!

Dramatic.  Romantic.  Passionate.  Fierce.

From the streets ….

…..to the red carpet.

Julie from the fashion blog Sincerely Jules wears it well.  Love these pants.

I came across this amazing DIY  home dye job.   I love it, but I think I will just live vicariously through her blog post.

burgundy hair

Red has never been one of my favorite colors, so I’m not so sure if I could pull these looks off.    I think my fashion sense is too neutral and “normal”   What do you think?  I must not be the only one that feels this way!  Maybe I need to step out of my comfort zone….

Okay,okay…..here’s something I can live with – nail polish!

OPI.  Going to CVS to get this ASAP.

You may ask: How does dark red look in a home?  Great.  Fantastic.  Wonderful.  But under one condition –  don’t overdo it.     A little goes a long way.

burgundy door

This red exterior door is welcoming yet sophisticated.  Painting the whole house this color would clearly be another story.

Because deep reds are so bold, first buy a rug or other accessory to “try on” the color.   I love this Amy Butler rug because it uses a peachy coral and a light pink to offset the red.

Lots of red items out there, here’s my faves:

holiday in the {hollywood} hills

Did anyone catch the this month’s Lonny mag??

I just had to point out the awesome home of L.A. based designer Mark D. Sikes.   It’s insane how effortless a home can appear while remaining so refined in the smallest of details.  While you’re drooling, take note of all the natural elements that give the space a serene and earthy atmosphere.  Here’s a few of the highlights:

I’m loving the neutral, soothing palette.

How cute are these little white mini pumpkins for each place setting?!

This is such a welcoming and comfortable kitchen, especially with the seating area and built-in book storage in close proximity.

Tile + mirror = winning combo

Ahh so cozy.

Striped awning: I see you!!

Wow what gorgeous views!!  And the landscaping flows perfectly.
