3 life tips from an unlikely source

Okay so who saw the Teen Choice Awards the other night??   I’m unsure of the teeny bopper population that reads this blog, but I think it’s safe to assume most of you didn’t catch it live.  I didn’t even realize it was on that night, or even if I did, I probably still wouldn’t have cared.  The days of my obsessions with musical crushes and idolized actresses is long gone.  The 90’s were amazing. Now we’re left with One Direction. Ehh.

But I woke up the next day and found out via Facebook News Feed that I missed a very special, important moment.  From who else but Ashton Kutcher himself. (Which, by the way, makes me feel immensely old when he’s essentially receiving a LIFETIME achievement award) I love Ashton but honestly, I was a little skeptical.  What could he have said in an acceptance speech that could be so amazing???

Ashton Kutcher Teen Choice Awards Speech

Prepare to be blown away.  It was genius.  I swear you can hear Steve Jobs clapping all the way from the afterlife.  I mean yes I’ve heard better speeches in my life, but I loved it and had to share.

If you’ve already seen it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Inspirational or overrated?? If you haven’t seen it, watch it below:

Happy Friday!! Go out there and give life your best shot today – and always. 🙂

next big thing: Kimbra

When I first found Kimbra a few months ago it was like love at first sight (wait…more like love at first sound!).  She’s featured on Gotye’s track “Somebody I Used to Know” that spent 8 weeks at #1 in Australia, topped charts in 11 countries, and gained so much popularity recently in the US.

Originally from New Zealand, she is 21 years young, but has the maturity and sophistication of a veteran in the music industry.  Her originality and retro-modern sound has been compared to the likes of Duffy and Amy Winehouse.  For me, I love her style.  Her voice is soulful and jazzy, yet rediculously fun.  Her music has 50’s charm and charisma mixed with pop beats that fits in well with today’s music scene.  She’s theatrical and unique.  LOVE LOVE LOVE.  I can’t say it enough.

This summer promises to be big for her:  she will be touring with Foster the People and her CD “Vows” will be released in the US in May.  If you are impatient like muah, you can order it on Amazon from sellers overseas or purchase her songs on iTunes.

The SXSW music festival just kicked off in Austin yesterday, and Kimbra will perform at the MTVu Woodie Awards Festival tomorrow, among the likes of some other hot and upcoming artists.  I may have to resist every urge to call in sick tomorrow.
