Pigeon & Poodle: all in the details

Design really is in the details.

The larger pieces always seem to be the main focus of the designer, but we have to be careful not to lose sight of the smaller details and accessories we put into each project.  It’s these pretty little things that give the design character and make it unique.  Even the most minimal or simple designs will need to be carefully refined.

A few months back I found this wonderful accessories company called Pigeon and Poodle.  (Great name, right??)  They specialize in bath accessories, but also carry other home items like frames and baskets.  Their product line is inspired from nature and world travel, so each piece has its own story.  Beautiful handcrafted trays made from capiz shells (as shown below), marble soap dishes, and onyx tissue boxes are just a few of the offerings in their bath collection.

Here’s some of my favorites:

Pigeon and Poodle kicked off 2013 debuting at the Atlanta Gift Show, New York Gift Show and Las Vegas Market, and have been featured in House Beautiful.   I think big things are in store for these guys!  Their products are sold to the trade only, but visit their website to see full collections @ http://www.pigeonandpoodle.com .

design obsession: hexagon

Ahh yes, my favorite 6 sided shape.  We meet again!

hicks hexagon wallpaper

Loving the Hicks Hexagon wallpaper.

Or if you’re feeling very ambitious, you can stencil it on your walls.  (I was kidding – but if you are totally insane and up for the challenge, the DIY can be found here. )

Seeing a lot of hexagon mosaic tile too lately!

black hexagon travertine floor tile

Lovely pavers to use in your garden too!  I dig it. (Pun intended. Very corny yes indeed.)

Don’t worry – there’s plenty of honeycomb shaped treasures to share.

color story: chartreuse + plum

Chartreuse and Plum: A dynamic duo.  Fresh and spunky, yet deep and powerful.  They are not your usual couple, but hey I’ve heard opposites attract.  Even as bold as each color is, these two can share the spotlight together if done correctly.

Both colors a  little muted here and they compliment each other beautifully.

Love it with the lilac or raspberry too!plum and green paint colors

.better homes and gardens purple and green room

The key is to blend the greens and purples with other neutrals, browns, blacks, or whites. Mixing in rich brown tones and/or black (as shown above) gives off a luxurious feel.  Or use white in the color scheme (shown below) to achieve a more serene & sophisticated environment.

Using gold with these 2 colors looks great too!

casa de updates

Hello my readers! Are you still out there? I know I fell off the face of the earth lately. Of course the new house has been consuming my life.  I wish I had some other exciting stories or amazing revelations to share with you…but I don’t.  So in that case I will now attempt to entertain you with the latest updates at the new casa.

Last week, we finally finished painting! Okay that was a lie. We are not done thanks to the knotty pine bonus room from hell. I’m in one more coat denial so of course I believe this is the last coat. We shall see…

Our final paint palette ended up looking like this:

For our fun sized powder room, I decided to do an accent wall of wallpaper in the pattern below. My hope is that it will make it seem a little bigger. You know like maybe 4 x 5 feet instead of 3.5 x 4!

Perhaps the mack daddy news of all is that we just had the wood floors last week. For the first time I actually felt like this whole thing is finally starting to come together!

I love how they turned out!  It’s crazy to think just the floors and paint can make this much of a difference!

PS. We just moved everything in on Saturday!  I’m not going to lie – it’s a little strange. It doesn’t quite feel like it’s our home yet, but I’m sure that will come with time.  Kinda hard to feel homey when there are boxes everywhere I guess. 🙂

PPS. I am the proud new owner of this new clearance mirror at target. $19.99 . Come into my lovely home!

That’s all for now!  I promise to get back to the regular posts.  I’ll be back sooner than later 🙂 xo.

sabbatical in Santorini

I’ve came to the conclusion months ago that I need a vacation.  Believe it or not, I haven’t taken a day off since July.  With lows in the 30’s this week and all the craziness that is the destruction of our new home, I’m ready to just fly away to somewhere warm and pretty, preferably away from everybody and everything, where I can prance around in a swim suit without a care in the world.  What better place than Greece??

All of my daydreams came true when I stumbled upon this unique home in Santorini while looking through Elle Décor’s website this morning.  Please, take me there!
