hill country modern

Welcome to this upscale home, located up the road from me in Wimberly, Texas.  Designed by Cunningham Architects out of Dallas,  this modern treasure is as beautiful as it is energy efficient.  Among the green building principles are use of local materials and harvesting rainwater on the rooftop.

“Nestled on the edge of a bluff in the Texas hill country, the Wimberley residence quietly sits among the brush and trees, providing a peaceful respite for its inhabitants.” – Cunningham Architects

“An “L” plan effectively separates the bedroom wing from the more public kitchen/living/dining room wing. As such, the house essentially is two discrete boxes, one of glass, and the other of stained cement fiber board, indicative of their respective functions.” – Cunningham Architects

A few pictures of the interior!

Don’t forget about the rooftop patio.  Ballin!

I can already picture the rediculous pool parties that would happen here.

When can I move in???? 🙂

color story: winter white

White is pretty much my all time favorite color.   It’s fresh.  Classic. Refreshing.

The myth that white is just for summer or the beach has officially been busted!!  As we cross our fingers today for Punxsutawney Phil not to see his shadow, why not look at the beautiful white that can be found during this time of year?  Here’s some pictures to inspire you!

.

Maybe it’s because it’s been almost 4 years since I lived in the snowy tundra, but images like this just make me happy.  So pretty to look at (but I sure don’t miss shoveling it!).

.

Aww these guys are so cute!

.

White nails!

White flowers in a white vase makes me MELT.

Love this old barn!!

find your perfect palette!

If you haven’t already seen this website, let me tell you it is just simply amazing!  It’s called Design Seeds, and each day they post new inspiring color palettes.  It’s genius because it takes a great photo and then pulls out the colors that are in it, producing a neat combo of colors that work together flawlessly.

Many photos from this site are pinned all over Pinterest these days (by the way, if you aren’t already on Pinterest, you need to be!), but the site itself is actually a really good resource because with the Palette Search  you can take any color you like, using its RGB value, and find palettes with that color!

These are a few of my favorites.   Enjoy!

loco for local: One.Eleven.Design in Austin

“I don’t consider myself a ‘contemporary’ designer – my work has a foot firmly rooted in the past.  I believe that allows it to become timeless.”

– Joel Mozersky  (One. Eleven. Design)

In this new segment, Loco For Local, I will be uncovering some of the great local companies, eateries, and shops that inspire and amaze.  This week’s feature is about local designer Joel Mozersky, owner of One. Eleven.Design in Austin.   Pairing a charm from the past with eclectic modern accents, his style is as unique as Texas’ capital city itself.

Past projects include the Real World Austin house (pictured above), the Dixie Chicks tour buses , and many upscale restaurants in Austin.

Capitol Saddlery, a historic building turned residence, demonstrates how Joel is always going for the “wow” factor.

One of my fave projects is this loft in San Antonio.   It was featured in Metropolitan Home in 2009.
