mid-century modern ranch home

This mid-century modern ranch was transformed into the perfect home for one Austin’s foremost music club owners with an extensive hot rod collection. The addition of a six-car garage and bedroom wing created the extra space and functionality needed for the home.  – Dick Clark Architecture

Featured in this summer’s Atomic Ranch magazine, this amazing home is a eclectic mix of modern and retro.

.

A bridge gallery was added to connect the new addition with the existing home.

I can’t imagine having a red kitchen but I really like it in this pic!

Hello bath floor tile.  You inspire me.

Celebrity Kitchens

Ever wish you could tour a celebrities home?   I was looking on Architectural Digest’s website this morning, and saw this slideshow with celebrity kitchens, and thought I would share with you.

.

My favorite is Cher’s kitchen in her Los Angeles duplex.  Love the detailing in the cabinets and the neutral colors!  So global and homey.

.

Can you believe this kitchen belongs to Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne?? I really like it, just would expect something more dark and dramatic.

.

Hank Azaria’s country yet contemporary kitchen. Great layout and use of materials.

.

I LOVE Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s kitchen in their Beverly Hills home.  Clean lines and Arts & Crafts touches give this kitchen a timeless effect.

.

Doesn’t really surprise me that the kitchen above belongs to Elton John!  Bright accents and modern glamour.

.

I would have never guessed that this kitchen belongs to funny man Gerard Butler!  It just like it belongs to an old man.

.

I’m not in love with Angela Lansbury’s farmhouse style kitchen.

.

Diane Keaton’s kitchen is quite interesting.  I like the tile, but it’s a little overwhelming.  It does get brownie points for character though.

.

This last one is Will Smith’s.  I think it’s a little old-fashioned and blah for him.   He needs something more modern!  I like the reclaimed wood beams though!

.

Are these celebs kitchens what you expected?  Which one is your favorite??

hill country modern

Welcome to this upscale home, located up the road from me in Wimberly, Texas.  Designed by Cunningham Architects out of Dallas,  this modern treasure is as beautiful as it is energy efficient.  Among the green building principles are use of local materials and harvesting rainwater on the rooftop.

.

“Nestled on the edge of a bluff in the Texas hill country, the Wimberley residence quietly sits among the brush and trees, providing a peaceful respite for its inhabitants.” – Cunningham Architects

.

“An “L” plan effectively separates the bedroom wing from the more public kitchen/living/dining room wing. As such, the house essentially is two discrete boxes, one of glass, and the other of stained cement fiber board, indicative of their respective functions.” – Cunningham Architects

.

A few pictures of the interior!

Don’t forget about the rooftop patio.  Ballin!

.

I can already picture the rediculous pool parties that would happen here.

When can I move in???? 🙂

loco for local: One.Eleven.Design in Austin

“I don’t consider myself a ‘contemporary’ designer – my work has a foot firmly rooted in the past.  I believe that allows it to become timeless.”

– Joel Mozersky  (One. Eleven. Design)

In this new segment, Loco For Local, I will be uncovering some of the great local companies, eateries, and shops that inspire and amaze.  This week’s feature is about local designer Joel Mozersky, owner of One. Eleven.Design in Austin.   Pairing a charm from the past with eclectic modern accents, his style is as unique as Texas’ capital city itself.

Past projects include the Real World Austin house (pictured above), the Dixie Chicks tour buses , and many upscale restaurants in Austin.

Capitol Saddlery, a historic building turned residence, demonstrates how Joel is always going for the “wow” factor.

One of my fave projects is this loft in San Antonio.   It was featured in Metropolitan Home in 2009.
