california dreamin’: patrick dempsey’s malibu home

Let’s go back to 2005.  Grey’s Anatomy was one of the hottest new shows on TV, and millions tuned in each week for their dose of drama in the OR.  And of course, everyone remembers Patrick Dempsey, who played Dr. Derek Shepherd (aka McDreamy).   Although many have left their obsession with Dempsey in the past, there is definitely a lot to crush over in his simple yet enchanting Malibu home.

Tin House - Originally Designed by Frank Gehry - Architectural Digest

Featured in Architectural Digest, this is one of architect Frank Gehry’s earliest homes.  A studio combined with a private residence, this dwelling was originally designed for an artist, long before Gehry was recognized in the architectural world.  Its structure boasts the bones of the 1960’s with an updated and renovated interior.

I’m loving all the natural elements.  It just feels so comfy and inviting.  And the fireplace log storage as a focal point = genius.

This is the essence of the California, laid back style.  It just doesn’t really get much better than this.

mid century minimalist meets boho chic

  Rachel Bilson's antique arm chair

Welcome to the home of Rachel Bilson and lovie Hayden Christensen.  Rachel is best known for her roles in The OC, Jumper, and now Hart of Dixie…but since I don’t watch too much TV, she is possibly best known to me for her amazing relaxed, boho style.

Her new pad is the feature on this month’s Lonny, I suggest you check it out.  Designed by the super talented Kishani Perera, this home is an intermingled yet completely balanced reflection of Bilson and Christensen’s personal styles.  It’s beautifully blended with cultured prints, vintage pieces, and simple lines.

happy trails

I love all kinds of restorations.  The creativity that comes with taking something old and having it come alive again in a whole new way totally inspires me.  It really gives perspective on how one man’s trash really is another’s treasure!

That being said, there’s a special place in my heart for vintage airstreams.  I’m always amazed by how such a small space can be utilized so efficiently! What could possibly be more perfect then a cute little trailer you can travel, work, or play in??

When I lived in Florida, I worked in the best beach town ever, Seaside.   We had the greatest little airstream food court right in the town center.

I used to walk over on my break to grab a sandwich, smoothie, or snowcone.  I had no idea just how spoiled I was!!

I may add acquiring an airstream to my ever growing Bucket List.  If you had one, what would you use it for?

50’s inspired hillside home

Tomorrow is the day that I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time now.  We get to hop a plane and escape to Philadelphia for Nate’s bro’s wedding! I can’t believe Memorial Day weekend is already here.  (Time just flies when you are remodeling and unpacking.)

In honor of our getaway to the East Coast, I’ll leave you with this dreamy hillside home tucked in Pennsylvania’s Blue Mountains .  Featured in AD, this home was designed by Peter Bohlin of the Pennsylvania-based architectural firm, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. (I’ll have you know that Peter was a graduate of Michigan’s Cranbrook School of Art. REPRESENT!!)

In the article, Peter described the client’s desire for a timeless space.  I think I fall in love with the idea of something being “timeless”…that time can pass and it remains just as true, believable, and fabulous as day one.  It’s such a hard concept to achieve with all of the trends in the design world.  It really makes you think hard about what will withstand the test of time vs. what is a fad.

For me, what makes this home so special is the use of materials and furniture pieces that aren’t fussy or easily dated.  This must be why mid-century furniture holds a special place in my heart :).

Bon Voyage! I gotta go get ready for this trip!  You will hear more from me when I return. 🙂 Happy Memorial Day weekend!

sabbatical in Santorini

I’ve came to the conclusion months ago that I need a vacation.  Believe it or not, I haven’t taken a day off since July.  With lows in the 30’s this week and all the craziness that is the destruction of our new home, I’m ready to just fly away to somewhere warm and pretty, preferably away from everybody and everything, where I can prance around in a swim suit without a care in the world.  What better place than Greece??

All of my daydreams came true when I stumbled upon this unique home in Santorini while looking through Elle Décor’s website this morning.  Please, take me there!
