casa de updates

Hello my readers! Are you still out there? I know I fell off the face of the earth lately. Of course the new house has been consuming my life.  I wish I had some other exciting stories or amazing revelations to share with you…but I don’t.  So in that case I will now attempt to entertain you with the latest updates at the new casa.

Last week, we finally finished painting! Okay that was a lie. We are not done thanks to the knotty pine bonus room from hell. I’m in one more coat denial so of course I believe this is the last coat. We shall see…

Our final paint palette ended up looking like this:

For our fun sized powder room, I decided to do an accent wall of wallpaper in the pattern below. My hope is that it will make it seem a little bigger. You know like maybe 4 x 5 feet instead of 3.5 x 4!

Perhaps the mack daddy news of all is that we just had the wood floors last week. For the first time I actually felt like this whole thing is finally starting to come together!

I love how they turned out!  It’s crazy to think just the floors and paint can make this much of a difference!

PS. We just moved everything in on Saturday!  I’m not going to lie – it’s a little strange. It doesn’t quite feel like it’s our home yet, but I’m sure that will come with time.  Kinda hard to feel homey when there are boxes everywhere I guess. 🙂

PPS. I am the proud new owner of this new clearance mirror at target. $19.99 . Come into my lovely home!

That’s all for now!  I promise to get back to the regular posts.  I’ll be back sooner than later 🙂 xo.

color story: mint + beige

So 2013 is the year of Emerald according to Pantone.  Instead of boring you with yet another post about it, I will introduce its distant relative, and equally as fashionable counterpart: mint.   Mint is popping up everywhere, from the runway to furniture pieces.

It’s serene and refreshing.  Pair it with a creamy beige or khaki!  Here’s some inspiration shots….

Maroon.  Wine.  Oxblood.  Raspberry.  Is it just me or are these colors everywhere right now?!

Dramatic.  Romantic.  Passionate.  Fierce.

Julie from the fashion blog Sincerely Jules wears it well.  Love these pants.

I came across this amazing DIY  home dye job.   I love it, but I think I will just live vicariously through her blog post.

Red has never been one of my favorite colors, so I’m not so sure if I could pull these looks off.    I think my fashion sense is too neutral and “normal”   What do you think?  I must not be the only one that feels this way!  Maybe I need to step out of my comfort zone….

Okay,okay…..here’s something I can live with – nail polish!

OPI.  Going to CVS to get this ASAP.

You may ask: How does dark red look in a home?  Great.  Fantastic.  Wonderful.  But under one condition –  don’t overdo it.     A little goes a long way.

burgundy door

This red exterior door is welcoming yet sophisticated.  Painting the whole house this color would clearly be another story.

Because deep reds are so bold, first buy a rug or other accessory to “try on” the color.   I love this Amy Butler rug because it uses a peachy coral and a light pink to offset the red.

color story: brown + gold

Nothing says  “IT’S FALL BABY” more than brown and gold.  I’m serious.  These 2 colors are just so beautiful together.  Brown gives a classic, warm feel while gold brings the look of royalty.  Together they bring sophistication and style.  (Example:  Picture a Louis Vuitton bag…..What colors do you see? BROWN & GOLD. Coincidence? I think not!)

I wish I looked this good playing on my phone. Fascinated with the stacked bracelets.

This living room is well dressed.  Notice the cream colored sofa and how well it goes with the two colors.

Mmmmmm.

Gold marble Saarinen table? Yes!

spring in bloom

One of my favorite things about Spring is when the flowers begin to bloom.  Fresh flowers can make a whole room just GLOW.  That’s why it’s no secret that flowers are used for big events like weddings and parties, home staging to entice potential home buyers, and for photo shoots for your favorite magazine.  They make us feel happy inside and loved.

One of my favorite are big garden roses, like pictured above.

And peonies.  Oh I’m a fool for peonies!

Using flowers that color coordinate in the room reinforces the scheme, helping the space feel more uniform and orderly.
