As I said back in January, we were looking at homes and talking to lenders in search of our first home. I can now announce to you that…
WE’RE BUYING OUR FIRST HOME!
I didn’t want to say anything until we were 100% sure, but with the all the negotiations, inspection, appraisal, and loan approval process behind us, it’s looking like it’s going to happen! We actually close tomorrow!! Eeeee I can’t believe it! So soon – but so exciting! Guess we’ll be calling Texas home for a while. 😉
It’s a 1950’s ranch style home on a 1/2 acre lot, close to our little downtown & a park. It’s little over a mile away from where we rent now, perched up on the lovely neighborhood known as “the hill”. Since it’s an older home, it’s definitely going to need some love. We won’t move in until April or May so we got some time to plan out what renovations we want to do and move things in slowly. Our first big project? Ripping out the existing floors and putting in hardwood. And of course you’ll get to see the updates right here on the blog :).
So happy and thankful for this major milestone in our lives!!
Ahh so glad it’s Friday. I’m beyond ready for the weekend. I was on AD’s website earlier and saw these two beautiful homes. The first crib is home to the very talented musical star John Legend. The 2nd belongs to one of my favorite actors & comedians, Will Ferrell.
Tucked in the Hollywood Hills, this 60’s home’s style is “chic and tailored but also earthy and casual” according to the singer/songwriter, who shares the home with his fiance.
The contrast of light and dark, mixed use of materials, and organic shapes are what makes the space so special.
I adore those two chairs! How fun!
Streamlined and very modern kitchen.
Notice the wall covering? It’s seagrass.
.
Located downtown NYC, this space was transformed from a dark and crumbling Victorian-era printing factory to a bright and airy residence to Will, his wife, and 3 kids. It’s an unexpectedly upscale and sophisticated home for such a funny guy.
Classic white, black and grey.
Artsy and minimalistic.
I must say, I love the bedrooms!
.
So which celeb has the better designed home, Will or John?? What would you rather have: a city loft or the mansion in the hills?

I bet if you asked people to name the first gift idea that popped into their head for Valentine’s Day, most would say: jewelry, flowers, Hallmark, or chocolate. There’s such an industry built around the 14th of February I think sometimes we lose focus on what the whole point of the day really is. What better way to show someone you care than with a thoughtful craft or keepsake? Here’s 4 DIY Valentine’s Day craft ideas I found on the web that caught my eye. You can find nearly all of the materials to make them at home or at the store up the street!

I love these homemade cards featured in this month’s Real Simple mag. Such a great idea to take something you don’t use anymore like a deck of cards, an old match book, or a puzzle and create these unique valentines!
.
Go to Hobby Lobby and grip up these cardboard letters and your favorite color of spray paint to create this valentine that can be displayed year round. (Note: metallic paint colors always seem to make these pop – but I’m sure you could use any color!)
.
The perfect simple valentine. Paint strips are free and I’m sure ya’ll have a marker lying around. This is great for the coworker, classmate, or extended family member. You can always write a message on the back too if you so desire.

Buy a small canvas (art stores have these on sale all the time!), give it a quick paint job, and then glue small items together in the shape of a heart. Love this one made out of buttons shown above, but you could use anything around the house, like thumbtacks, coins, cut up pieces of fabric…be creative – the sky is the limit!
